The Provost of St Mary's Cathedral in Glasgow thought it was a good idea, in the name of “diversity” and “inter-faith” relations to have a Muslim girl read a passage of the Quran (Suna 19) at the service marking the feast of the Epiphany. That is all well and good and the intentions could be considered worthy until it was discovered what the translation of the Quranic verses meant.
Suna 19 refers to the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary, it then goes on to denounce Jesus as the Son of God, that Jesus should not be worshipped and re-iterating later on in the text that God has no son.
This was not only preached in a Christian church whose belief system is in the Holy Trinity (God the Father, his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost) but at a service worshipping the Feast of Epiphany, marking the arrival of the three Magi to the birthplace of Jesus Christ. At this juncture, it is worth pointing out that although the three Magi would have been of Arabic or North African appearance, they would NOT have been adherents to the Islamic faith, which did not come into being until 1400 years after the event (they were, as historians commonly agree, Zoroastrians)
Some people (thousands apparently) were offended by this abuse of Christian hospitality, and rightly so in my opinion. Millions of Christians around the world are being persecuted because of their faith, predominantly in Middle Eastern countries where Islam is the majority religion, but equally in Europe, indeed the attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, Germany was perpetrated towards Christians and their celebrations. It is diabolical that a Christian church would even entertain a reading as blasphemous as this, to be preached on consecrated grounds, let alone at one of the most important services of the Christian calendar. Inclusiveness is all well and good when it is reciprocal.
At this point, the standard SJW retort would be something along the lines of “Islamophobia, racism, bigot and/or xenophobia. Equally the epithet of “misogyny “may also be thrown into the mix, this only has power when levied at a man (particularly the white, cis gender, privileged kind). In this instance, as I am a woman, there would be no grounds for this accusation, but given that none of the other vacuous labels used by Leftist Progressives have any credence to them, why let a little thing like definitive meaning get in the way?! Then, the libtard's final “coup de grĂ¢ce” “But, but – DIVERSITY!”
My studied response to this would be as follows:
1. Diversity – means diverse opinions as well as cultures, ergo mine is as valid an opinion as yours.
2. Has the local Glaswegian mosque ever allowed a Christian representative into a mosque to read during Friday prayers? Because - you know – DIVERSITY!
3. No Imam on the face of this planet would allow a Christian into his mosque let alone give him a platform, or pulpit, to preach that Mohammed was a paedophilic, murdering, anti-Semitic loony, and therefore shouldn't be worshipped.
4. Tell me how many Christian churches are there in Saudi Arabia, the home of Mecca?
5. How can a book written 1,400 years after the birth of Christ even manage to disprove the holiness of Jesus? Yet no-one in Islam, let alone from the world of the infidel, is allowed to question the Qu'ran, the Hadiths, the Sura or the Sunnah and their contents? People have been blown up, shot, beheaded and stoned to death for trying to do so.
6. The previous point will throw up the “Islamophobe” accusation to which my reply would be the following; “No. A phobia is an irrational fear of something. My fear of Islam is very real, is based on fact and therefore it cannot be called a phobia.”
7. By this time your average snowflake will be getting very patronising and will be one rational, fact based response (on my part) away from being triggered, and they will come in with their, one size fits all, “big one”; RACIST!!!
8. Now a hair's breadth away from being “triggered” they'd look at you with their “Gotcha!” patronising face and taunting smile. Whereupon I'd deliver my final blow...
9. “Islam is a religion (it's more of a theology or cult but that's semantics) therefore any statement I make regarding it and its adherents is NOT and CANNOT be racist, furthermore” I would add “one cannot change the meaning of words to suit your own narrative and your verbal ad hominem attacks are puerile and lack any form of debate. Now shuffle off to your little safe space and ruminate on that one!”
