Thanks to the beauty of the internet and the excellent filing skills of Rosy Williams, a letter has emerged written by George Osbourne, when he was just a lowly opposition MP in 2003. This letter criticises the incumbent Labour (Tony Blair's) government and their implementation of the university tuition fees whilst declaring that when the Conservatives get back into power (which they did in coalition with the Liberal Democrats in 2010) they would scrap the tuition fee totally. He even states that the fees are a "tax on learning". However, in 2010 one of the very first things the coalition government did was raise the tuition fee from £3,000 a year to £9,000 a year.
